Once again whānau, Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year. See you all next year. [Read more…]

Building update

After a long year of planning and building we are just about finished. We should be completed by the end of this working year. We have made considerable changes in expanding our building, so we can be of better service to our whānau and community.
Once the building is finished we will put new photos in the pānui for everyone to see. We are getting excited here at Hokonui, as we near the end of this project and start next year fresh.

This month the tamariki decided to have a go at baking. The food looked yummy and even some of the staff and builders sampled some of the goodies.

Complex update

We have received approved resource consent and building consent, so we are excited to inform everyone that within the next couple of weeks demolition will start. It feels like it’s been a long time since we had the fire in May 2014, but we cannot wait to start the rebuild. The rebuild is expected to take around seven to eight months to complete. We will keep you all updated with progress reports as the building goes along.

Last Kaumātua Health Day we went out to Mandeville Gallery to look at the Mataura River Art Project. Community arts worker, Janet de Wagt, worked with 21 primary schools (more than 1800 school children in total)  to create a special art exhibition that celebrates the Mataura River in all its forms.

The students and teachers have worked with a large variety of materials. The displays were amazing to see and a lot of hard work that went into each piece of artwork. [Read more…]
