We have been greeted by some spectacular morning frosts recently and despite the chill in the air, our pae mauka do look beautiful cloaked in hukapapa. Like the rest of the country, the weather here on Te Tai o Poutini has been all over the place. A really nasty cyclone hit the coast just before Easter, wreaking havoc. Nothing was spared, with trees levelled, homes torn apart, roofs ripped off and vehicles overturned. [Read more…]

The weather has continued to be all over the place, with balmy summer conditions drawing us outside and heavy rain forcing us back in. We have had a mixed bag weather-wise here on Te Tai o Poutini with Tamanui-te-rā blessing us with his presence, heavy rain and even a touch of makariri to prevent us from becoming complacent.

It’s been pretty quiet on the whitebaiting front, with no reports of the bait running and people reporting only catching enough for a feed. I expect that will have changed by the next edition of Te Pānui Rūnaka. [Read more…]

There has been a lot happening since the last edition of Te Pānui Rūnaka. Our ANZAC Commemoration Service drew a good crowd; we spent time with NZ Olympic and Paralympic representatives; we hosted students and staff from local Tai Poutini Polytechnic and international students who are studying ecology in New Zealand.
