Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Incorporated – annual general meeting on 30 October 2016 at 11.00am to be held at Arahura Marae, 1 Old Christchurch Road, Hokitika.

Whānau Ora navigator

Kia ora whānau, one of my roles as our Whānau Ora navigator is to uplift the health and wellbeing of our whānau and hapū. One initiative I have started is taking some of our kaumātua to aqua aerobic classes at the Greymouth Aquatic Centre in Māwhera.

These are wonderful classes and I have had a lot of positive feedback from those attending and interest from others wanting to attend. It’s excellent gentle exercise and all are welcome to join us. Notice of postal ballot and nominations

Postal vote
Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae is due to conduct a postal vote to elect the appointment committee that will be responsible for appointing the rūnanga representative and their alternate to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.

Members are invited to both ensure that we have a valid current postal address for them and that they are properly registered.

All potential members, who are 18 years and over and would like to participate in the voting process for the appointments committee are invited to apply to register by returning the rūnanga registration form to the rūnanga office before 5pm on 18 March 2016. All potential members are encouraged to register with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae.

Registration forms can be requested from our rūnanga office and are to be received by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Office by 5pm, 18 March.

Congratulations

The Kotahi Mano Kāika Reo Awards 2015 were hosted in Dunedin on Friday 20 November during the Hui-ā-Iwi 2015 celebrations. Our rūnanga nominated Te Rua Mason as our te reo champion for Te Pā Whakawairua Award.

Each of the 18 Papatipu Rūnanga were able to nominate their own te reo champion on behalf of their rūnanga. Te Rua was nominated for his commitment and dedication to te reo Māori on our marae, from holding the mana on our paepae to his all-round passion for the language.

Congratulations to our girl Tamara Matariki Liu, who graduated on 19 September with a Bachelor of Nursing.

Kia ora Kāi Tahu whānau, hope everyone is well and healthy and the bugs have missed you all. It’s starting to warm up now and its getting lighter at night so it’s a sign that we’ll be able to spend more time in our gardens or outside with our tamariki after mahi. I’m looking forward to more sunny weather, but as we say at Te Tai o Poutini, we get a week of fine hot weather and then it will rain down on us for five weeks (let’s hope that doesn’t happen).
